[ About :: What is Amtgard ]

Amtgard (www.amtgard.com) is a nonprofit, nonsectarian group devoted to recreating elements of the medieval, ancient, and fantasy genres. The thrust of Amtgard is both recreational and educational, with major group efforts devoted to reconstructing medieval combat as a unique sport.

Amtgard first formed in El Paso, Texas. Amtgard, Incorporated is owned and copyrighted by the Kingdom of the Burning Lands in El Paso, Texas. Kingdoms across the world are semiautonomous groups bound together by the Amtgard contract and a shared set of rules and bylaws.

Since 1983, Amtgard has grown to twelve kingdoms with smaller groups stretching from Alaska to Florida and Texas to Maine with smaller groups in such diverse areas as Croatia, Europe, Korea, Finland, Sweden, Russia, and Brazil. (See the Amtgard Atlas)

Other groups, like those of E-Samurai have established themselves as online discussion magazine. These types of groups help to provide a healthy forum for extended communications to the Amtgard community.
